No stranger to putting spreadsheet apps on my phone and keeping all sorts of weird metrics about "things I do" also called, "important personal business", like remembering to check in on the daily Facebook puzzles for extra bonus points.....
The Checkbox.
Use either "Yes" and "No" or "Done" and "Undone", or simply use checkboxes in a habit tracking spreadsheet.
X-axis: Date
Y-axis: Habit Name(Freeze Row option checked so it follows you down the page as you scroll.)
You can even color code "yes" and "no" entries to keep better track,
also
easy as pie to make a chart of these entries.
You can also use Data Validation to make a menu box for each data cell, or only allow the two options you set at the start, in order to keep the data neat.
And I know you like neat data.
*I note their are a number of competent habit tracking apps in the app stores, and most have built in metrics/charts/stats for a small fee. Some of these can also store data long term.
